Born and raised in Kumasi, Ghana, Crystal Boateng is the author of seven celebrated children's books including the bestselling Afia the Ashanti Princess series. Her books introduce young readers to African culture, heritage, and the joy of diverse storytelling.

Crystal Boateng was born and raised in Kumasi, Ghana. She moved to Massachusetts at a young age with her family and is a proud alumna of Mount Holyoke College, holding a law degree and MBA from the University of Connecticut.
Crystal has three children who are her greatest inspiration. It was her desire to share her Ghanaian heritage with them — and with young readers of African descent everywhere — that sparked the creation of the Afia the Ashanti Princess series.
Her books have been celebrated for bringing diverse representation, African culture, and joyful storytelling to children who have rarely seen themselves reflected in the pages of a picture book. She is also the founder of Ashanti Royalty Publishing, helping other authors bring their own diverse stories to life.
